Porsche 911 S 2.2 1970: value

The value of a 1970 Porsche 911 S 2.2 is significantly influenced by originality, matching numbers, restoration quality, colour specification, documentation and overall completeness.

This particular car combines several highly sought-after attributes: its original matching-numbers engine, production limited to 1,744 examples, original Tangerine 018 colour, a complete documented restoration and numerous original components.

Comprehensive restoration to original specifications

The bodywork was completely stripped back to bare metal before being refinished in its original 018 Tangerine colour, one of the most iconic and recognisable shades associated with Porsche production in the early 1970s.

Particular attention was paid to build quality and the accuracy of individual details:

  • suspension components powder-coated;
  • aluminium trim polished;
  • original tinted glass refitted;
  • interior preserved and restored according to the correct period specifications.

The interior is now presented in excellent condition while retaining the authentic atmosphere of a sporting Porsche from 1970.

The 1970 Porsche 911 S 2.2

The 1970 Porsche 911 S represents one of the most important developments of the first-generation 911, combining strong performance, low weight and handling that remains remarkably modern even by today’s standards.

The previous year Porsche had already introduced a wheelbase extended by approximately 6.3 cm, significantly improving stability and balance. For the 1970 model year, the 911 S received further technical refinements, including an increase in output to 180 hp, aided by larger valves and improved breathing for the celebrated six-cylinder boxer engine.

Updates introduced for the 1970 model year included:

  • new 225 mm clutch;
  • improved interior with instruments mounted on rubber supports;
  • new steering lock;
  • redesigned door handles;
  • comprehensive factory-applied protective coating.

Braking was provided by four ventilated disc brakes, while a kerb weight of approximately 1,100 kg contributed to exceptional performance for the period:

  • 0–100 km/h in just over 7 seconds;
  • top speed of approximately 230 km/h.

Very few contemporary sports cars were able to offer such a refined balance of performance, steering precision and reliability.
