The late 1960s was a high point in Italian style and a moment that secured the futures of Ferrari and Fiat. Ferrari wanted to race in the 1967 F2 category and needed 500 engines to meet competition rules, but it had no capacity. Fiat agreed to build the all-aluminum V-6 2.0-liter engine, re-engineered by Aurelio Lampredi and producing 180 brake horsepower. The firm needed a halo car to lure aspirational buyers, and the result was the Fiat Dino Coupe.

Commissioned from Bertone, the sleek four-seater was created by legendary stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro. Launched at the 1967 Geneva Motor Show, it featured a five-speed gearbox, a limited-slip differential and four-wheel disc brakes. Gianni Agnelli, the industrial magnate, was among the wealthy owners and the model famously featured in 1969 film The Italian Job.
